August 3-9 is National Farmers Market Week! If you're looking for a meaningful activity to do with someone who has dementia, try taking a trip to your local farmers market together! Pro Tip: The colors, smells, and sounds of a farmers market are great stimulation for the brain. Plan a recipe you can make together with your fresh produce.

July is National Watermelon Month! If you're looking for a meaningful activity to do with someone who has dementia, then enjoy fresh watermelon together for a refreshing and hydrating treat! Pro Tip: Older adults with dementia are at a particularly high risk for dehydration, partly due to normal changes to the body that come with aging and partly due to a reduced sense of hunger and thirst. Offering watermelon, cucumbers, and popsicles can encourage good hydration if your loved one does not want to drink fluids.
